ORDERING
To avoid delay in finishing your project on time, it is advisable to purchase 5-10% more tile than actually needed to cover breakage and cuts during installation. If the design is complex, laid on the diagonal, or will involve an unusual amount of cutting, order even more.
It is also a good idea to order more to replace the occasional tile broken at a later date. Remember that natural stones do vary from batch to batch and shipment to shipment.

Getting the right people to do the job properly can make a huge difference in stone installation. One of the most important factor is to make sure the stones are laid by stonemason instead of tiler.

CONFIGURE
Before laying, it is a good idea to lay out all the pieces of the natural stones and try to mix and match them to produce the best configuration. By taking advantage of the natural veining, colour variation, shades and other factors beautiful pattern can be achieved.

Polymer Modified Adhesive is most commonly specified for fixing natural stone tiles. This type of cement based adhesive is designed to cope with minimal movement and vibration from the sub floor or background wall which has been tiled.
TO SEAL OR NOT TO SEAL
To be water and stain resistant, stone tile need be sealed. This could be a necessity in kitchens, baths, and other rooms where spills are more likely.
Generally speaking, there are two categories of sealer; penetrating (water based) and surface (solvent based). Some penetrating sealers do not change the color of the stone, others darken the stone slightly, and still others give the stone a distinct ‘wet look’. Surface sealers, which are usually formulated from acrylic or urethane, impart a higher gloss, highlighting the natural character and color of the stone.
