Keep It in Harmony
While life should be as colourful as rainbow, it is best to stick with neutral colours for majority of your floor and wall coverings.
The idea is, you will be living with this colour, so the colours need to be less confronting and more accomodating. Stronger colours can have a closing in effect, which means your room will feel smaller.
Beiges and Whites
You might think that beige and white are boring but there are myriads of variations in just these two colours. Some white can be colder or warmer depending on the tint it has. Always match warm colours with warm whites and vice versa. Pick up colour chips from your nearest hardware store to pick the best one to suit your project.
Accentuate
You can use accents with stronger colours, as this creates a more satisfactory outcome than a whole room painted in a powerful shade. Play with accenting colours, for example use stronger colour for just one side of your room to create a feature wall. Or use different material altogether to add texture and ambiance to the room.
Remember that floor and walls are the biggest area that will be seen in a room, so it is wise to start planning your decoration from these two elements before moving to furnitures and others.
And the best result is when you use your imagination to add some extra touches of your own!
