Porcelain Porosity and Cleaning
All porcelains have trapped porosity. The better the quality is the porcelain the less porosity remains trapped during the firing process. This trapped closed porosity shows up even more when the product goes through the polishing process.
Porosity does not effect glazed porcelain as the glaze acts as sealant on top of any surface it’s spread as long as the glaze lasts.
Some polished porcelain manufacturers now use a transparent glaze on their products in order to facilitate maintenance and cleaning after installations.
Below chart shows common types of stain and recommended substance to clean them. Note that this recommendations are not to be used on natural stones as these chemicals will effect them.
